Skincare routine quiz for women over 40

Answer six questions, get your skincare routine

Tell me a little about your skin and I'll put together a morning and evening routine from the products I use and recommend, plus a weekly schedule so you know which nights get the stronger steps. When you're done, one button adds the whole routine to your Amazon cart, and you can take out anything you already own.

Your routine

Here's where I would start

Smart picks are mostly under $40 each and Splurge picks are $40 and up. Splurge where it counts uses my splurge picks for vitamin C, retinoid and your booster, and smart picks for everything else. Switch any time to compare.

Your morning

Every day

Your evening

Steps rotate through the week

I suggest starting with the essentials marked "Start here" and adding the rest after 4 to 6 weeks, once your skin is used to the retinoid. Either button opens Amazon with those products in your cart, so you can review prices there before you check out. Cost estimates are rounded ranges based on Amazon prices in October 2026, before anything you already own, so check Amazon for current prices. Already have something? Check "I have this" and it comes out of the cart.

Your week

Which night gets what

Mornings stay the same every day. At night, the strongest steps take turns so your skin gets results without getting raw. Cleanse first and finish with your moisturizer every night.

Optional add on

Thinking about an LED mask?

These are the four masks I researched and compared. They are sold through the brands and ShopMy rather than Amazon, so they are not in your cart. If you use one, it goes on clean, dry skin before your serums, most nights of the week.

Maysama PRANA

The one I own, and the highest measured light output of the masks I compared.

Omnilux Contour Face

The mask with the most published research behind it, with more than 40 studies on the brand's technology.

CurrentBody Series 2

Three wavelengths, including near infrared at 1072nm, and an independent clinical trial behind it.

HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask

Cordless, easy to wear while you do other things, and the mask I reach for most often.

This routine is general education built from my own research and what I use on my own skin. It is not medical advice, and it cannot account for your health history or any prescriptions you use. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, skip the retinoid and ask your doctor what to use instead, and check with your dermatologist if you have a skin condition or a procedure coming up. Questions

About the routine quiz

How does this skincare routine quiz work?

You answer six questions about your age, skin type, the one or two things you most want to change, your experience with retinoids, whether you wear makeup most days and your budget. The quiz then builds a morning and evening routine from the products I use and recommend, with a weekly schedule that shows which nights get a retinoid, an exfoliant or a peptide serum.

What is a good skincare routine for women over 40?

The routine I come back to is simple: a gentle cleanser, vitamin C, moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning, and a retinoid a few nights a week in the evening. Once your skin is used to the retinoid, you can add an exfoliant, a peptide serum and one booster serum for your main concern. The quiz starts you with those five essentials and tells you when to add the rest.

How much does the routine cost?

My Smart picks are mostly under $40 each, and the five essentials usually come to about $100 to $150. Splurge picks are $40 and up, and there is a middle option that splurges only on vitamin C, retinoid and your booster. Your results show an estimated range for each, and you can check off anything you already own.

Do I need an LED mask or another device?

No. Your routine works without one. If you already own an LED mask, your weekly schedule shows which nights to use it, and my comparison of the four masks I researched is linked on the results page.

Is this medical advice?

No. It is general education from my own research and my own skin. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a skin condition or use prescription skincare, check with your doctor or dermatologist first.
